Removal of Hexavalent Chromium from Water by Chitosan-Enhanced Ultrafiltration

نویسندگان

چکیده

Polymer-enhanced ultrafiltration has gained increasing attention as a selective separation process to remove small solutes, such metal ions, from water or wastewater. Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) is one of the ions in wastewater that received considerable because its toxicity. Chitosan was used this study polymer bind enhance removal by ultrafiltration. The effects chitosan-to-Cr(VI) ratio on rejection and permeate flux were investigated. In addition, fouling tendency evaluated. Results showed addition chitosan with mass 12.5 increased Cr (VI) 28% 75% slight reduction L.m−2.h−1 9.3 L.m−2.h−1. Moreover, reduced after 100 min operation could be recovered using backwash procedure 89% compared initial flux.

Removal of hexavalent chromium by mixed micelles of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide using micellar enhanced ultrafiltration

Our study includes removal of Cr(VI) by using mixed surfactants (Non-ionic: Cationic). A common cationic surfactant Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB) with two different nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 and Tween-80 were used to remove Cr(VI) by micellar enhanced ultrafiltration technique. The effect of parameters such as initial feed metal ion concentration, pH and filtration time on % Reje...

Hexavalent chromium removal from near natural water by copper-iron bimetallic particles.

The reduction of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) by zero-valent iron (ZVI) is self-inhibiting in near natural groundwater because insulating Fe(III)-Cr(III) (oxy)hydroxide film forms on the ZVI surface during the reaction. This study tries to overcome this deficiency by coating the surface of ZVI with copper to form copper-iron bimetallic particles. The Cr(VI) removal rate by ZVI rose significantl...

Unmodified starch as water-soluble binding polymer for chromium ions removal via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration system

BACKGROUND In this study the removal of Chromium (III) and Chromium (VI) ions are investigated via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration under important process parameters. This study proposes the use of unmodified starch as a novel polymer in the ultrafiltration process and its performance on the removal of chromium ions was compared with a commonly used polymer, polyethylene glycol. METHODS The ...

Removal of hexavalent chromium using coffee husk

The potential to remove chromium(VI) from aqueous solutions through biosorption using coffee husk was investigated. The effects of pH, contact time, initial concentration and adsorbent dosage on the adsorption of Cr(VI) were studied. The data obeyed Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The Langmuir adsorption capacity was found to be 44.95 mg/g. The Freundlich constants Kf and n were 1...

Mechanisms of hexavalent chromium resistance and removal by microorganisms.

Chromium has been and is extensively used worldwide in multiple industrial processes and is routinely discharged to the environment from such processes. Therefore, this heavy metal is a potential threat to the environment and to public health, primarily because it is non-biodegradable and environmentally persistent. Chromium exists in several oxidation states, the most stable of which are triva...
